Yeimy Daniela BONILLA, from Peru, is a master’s student in social management at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Her research focuses on analyzing factors that contribute to or limit the economic autonomy of women coffee growers in a cooperative in northern Peru.
Yeimy Daniela has demonstrated her commitment to women and children by joining programs of different NGOs like World Vision and Practical Action. She has participated in the regional government’s Department of Education, implementing a program to prevent risky behaviors in adolescents, and participated in initiatives to combat anemia in children, a problem that impacts their overall development.
Yeimy Daniela grew up in a poor district in northern Peru, lacking access to drinking water until age 10. Her mother supported the entire family as a seamstress so that her father could attend university. Yeimy aspires to formalize her mother’s legacy through a community-based social organization that uses sewing as a central tool to reduce poverty among women.
Yeimy Daniela’s father worked as an informal vendor and then embarked on a career as a community leader. Yeimy remembers accompanying him to meetings and community events. Through her parents’ example, she learned that organization and advocacy build bridges to address social problems.
Yeimy Daniela hopes that the skills she acquires in her education together with the experience gained from her professional work will allow her to join a Peruvian public organization promoting the implementation of gender and education policies, thus contributing to the country's development.
Yeimy Daniela Bonilla, de Peru, es estudiante de maestría en gestión social en la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Su investigación analiza los factores que contribuyen o limitan la autonomía económica de las mujeres caficultoras en una cooperativa del norte del Perú.
Yeimy Daniela ha demostrado su compromiso con mujeres y niños al unirse a programas de diferentes ONG como World Vision y Practical Action. Ha participado en el Ministerio de Educación del gobierno regional, implementando un programa para prevenir conductas de riesgo en adolescentes, y en iniciativas para combatir la anemia infantil.
Yeimy Daniela creció en un distrito pobre del norte del Perú, sin acceso a agua potable hasta los diez años.
Su madre mantuvo a toda la familia como costurera para que su padre pudiera estudiar en la universidad. Yeimy Daniela aspira a formalizar el legado de su madre a través de una organización social comunitaria que utiliza la costura como herramienta fundamental para reducir la pobreza entre las mujeres.
Su padre trabajaba como vendedor informal, y después comenzó su carrera como líder comunitario. Yeimy recuerda acompañarlo a reuniones y eventos comunitarios. Gracias al ejemplo de sus padres, aprendió que la organización y la incidencia política construyen puentes para abordar los problemas sociales.
