Asnade Gnanhoui, originaire du Bénin, prépare son diplôme d’ingénieur des systèmes agricole et agroalimentaire durable dans les pays sud à l’Institut Agro Montpellier. Elle est titulaire d’une licence en Production végétale et semencière obtenue à l’Université nationale d'agriculture du Bénin et une seconde en agroécologie appliquée à la production animale obtenue à l’Institut Agro - Campus de Florac. Entre l’obtention de ses différents diplômes, elle a eu l’occasion de travailler sur le terrain et d’identifier un réel besoin d’accompagnement chez les femmes agricultrices. Ce qui l’a conduite à intégrer ce cycle d’ingénieur afin de consolider son expertise en agriculture durable et travailler dans le conseil agricole à la fin de ses études.
Très engagée dans la vie associative, elle a très tôt mis son engagement au service du militantisme pour les droits des femmes du secteur agricole et leur autonomisation. Notamment avec des missions auprès de Women Agricultural Promotion (WAP Bénin) et du Centre Régional de Recherche et d'Education pour un Développement Intégré (CREDI-ONG) mais aussi avec des actions personnelles à l’endroit des filles déscolarisés et des femmes agricultrice des zones rurales. Ces associations accompagnent les femmes vers une transition agricole surtout dans un contexte de changement climatique très prononcé dans les pays du sud.
À terme, elle souhaite s’engager dans l’élaboration de programmes et de politiques agricoles inclusives avec l’appui des autorités locales et internationales pour valoriser pleinement le rôle des femmes rurales dans le développement durable du continent africain. Persuadée que l’éducation, l’émancipation et le respect des droits des femmes passent aussi par une prise de conscience dès l’enfance, elle ambitionne également de créer des jeux de société pour sensibiliser les plus jeunes.
Asnade Gnanhoui, from Benin, is studying for a degree in sustainable agricultural and agri-food systems engineering in the Global South at the Institut Agro Montpellier. She holds a bachelor’s degree in crop and seed production from the National University of Agriculture in Benin and a second bachelor’s degree in agroecology applied to animal production from the Institut Agro - Florac Campus, in France. While studying for her degrees, she had the opportunity to work in the field and identified a real need for support among women farmers. This led her to enroll in her current engineering course, to consolidate her expertise in sustainable agriculture and work in agricultural consultancy upon completing her studies.
Deeply involved in community life, she dedicated herself early on to campaigning for the rights and empowerment of women in the agricultural sector. This included assignments with Women Agricultural Promotion (WAP Benin) and the Regional Centre for Research and Education for Integrated Development (CREDI-NGO), as well as personal initiatives targeting out-of-school girls and women farmers in rural areas. These organisations support women in making the transition to sustainable agriculture, particularly in the context of severe climate change in the Global South.
Asnade raising awareness about climate changes through game boards
In the long term, Asnade hopes to work on developing inclusive agricultural programmes and policies, with the support of local and international authorities, to fully recognize the role of rural women in the sustainable development of the African continent. Convinced that education, empowerment and respect for women’s rights also require raising awareness from childhood onwards, she also aims to create board games to raise awareness among the youngest members of society.
