Pamela FIGUEROA, from Honduras, is a master’s candidate in education at the University of Buenos Aires. She is also completing an online master’s degree in project management at Universidad de Cooperación Internacional, Costa Rica.
Pamela received the autism diagnosis after finishing school and finally understood why she had always been so different from her peers. After that, she made a promise to fight so that other autistic children would not have to go through the difficulties and discrimination that she had to endure for so long. This motivates her to continue her education so she can use that knowledge to serve the autistic community and help create a more inclusive society for everyone.
Her research focuses on the use of artistic strategies in autistic students in Honduras. Pamela is currently involved in different organizations for neurodivergent children and adolescents in Honduras. After graduation, she plans to return to work at the LUDCA Specialized Autism Center, as an art teacher to help autistic children and adolescents learn skills and manage their emotions through artistic and art therapy activities.
Pamela has received many awards, including the Francisco Morazán Academic Excellence Award in 2022, a UGRAD scholarship to study at Emporia State University in Kansas in 2022, and a scholarship from the Organization of American States for her master’s in Costa Rica. At age 12, she received a scholarship from the President of Honduras for her outstanding grades.

Pamela recibió el diagnóstico de autismo al terminar la escuela y finalmente comprendió por qué siempre había sido tan diferente de sus compañeros. Después de eso, se prometió luchar para que otros niños autistas no tuvieran que pasar por las dificultades y la discriminación que ella sufrió durante tanto tiempo. Esto la motiva a continuar su educación para poder usar ese conocimiento al servicio de la comunidad autista y ayudar a crear una sociedad más inclusiva para todos.
Su investigación se centra en el uso de estrategias artísticas en estudiantes autistas en Honduras. Actualmente, Pamela participa en diferentes organizaciones para niños y adolescentes neurodivergentes en Honduras. Después de graduarse, planea regresar a trabajar en el Centro Especializado de Autismo LUDCA como profesora de arte para ayudar a niños y adolescentes autistas a desarrollar habilidades y gestionar sus emociones mediante actividades artísticas y de arteterapia.
Pamela ha recibido numerosos premios, incluyendo el Premio a la Excelencia Académica Francisco Morazán en 2022, la beca UGRAD para estudiar en la Universidad Estatal de Emporia en Kansas en 2022 y una beca de la Organización de los Estados Americanos para realizar su maestría en Costa Rica. A los 12 años, recibió una beca del presidente de Honduras por sus excelentes calificaciones.
